Memories of the Cambrian Wheelers |
Following George Roger's kind thought in sending me old photographs he had of the 'Cambrian' I decided to put up the photographs that I have for anyone that may be interested.
I have put up thumbnails which will expand if you click them - then click back button to return here. I have not sized or enhanced any of the photos as you will appreciate.
I joined the Cambrian in 1945 after a special dispensation because as I remember sixteen was the minimum age, I then joined the Woolwich around 1947 before we got our 'League' aspirations and formed our own unofficial Beresford Square Velo.
Soon after that came motorbikes - old cars & girls, not necessary in that order. At 21 I did National Service and shortly after release Brenda & I were married in 1953 and moved to Suffolk soon afterwards after losing our flat in Plumstead.
Always trying to be active:
56-64 - Competitive Badminton
64-74 - Sailing
74-86 - Competitive Veteran Cycling
86-98 - Challenge Walking
I don't do much with Mildenhall Cycling Club now although an honorary member, I guess awarded as a result of the Mildenhall Rally which I started and headed up for the first five years. Because of its popularity it has had to go so commercial but is proving an excellent earner for the club.
I still try to ride regularly and in the year 2006 we had a good tandem holiday in France.
Click here if you want to see pictures of my active spell with Mildenhall.
